Renewable Energy Certificates (RECS)

Endless Solar's range of solar hot water systems are eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

In recognition of Endless Solar's quality approach, the Australian Federal Government, Office of Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) has increased the number of RECs that apply to every Endless Solar System. Endless Solar systems achieve more RECs than comparably sized products.

What is a REC?

The Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET) supports the reduction of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the proportion of Australia's electricity that is derived from renewable energy sources. This is achieved through an innovative market-based certificate trading scheme.

The commodity in this market is the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) - each REC represents the equivalent of one megawatt hour of electricity generation from an accredited renewable energy source. For solar water heaters each REC represents the displacement of one megawatt hour of electricity generation by solar energy.

How do RECs help me?

When you install an approved solar hot water system you generate a certain number of RECs which can be traded for money.

Example: Say you installed an Endless Solar GB-250-21NG-30 model in Sydney (zone 3) you would create 42 Renewable Energy Certificates (or RECs). Say for example, the value of each REC is $35* then you would get (42 x $35) $1470 in value back when you trade them.

* This value is an example only. The value of RECs fluctuates frequently.

In order to calculate how many RECs you are entitled to, you must find out what zone you live in. Each zone has a different REC value based on the climatic zone. You can find your zone by searching for your postcode in the list below.
